On Feb. 20, 1975 President Ralph W. Steen established the university archives to preserve the university’s official records. The university’s inactive records of archival value were to be transferred to the Special Collections Department for permanent preservation and to allow faculty, staff and patrons to research these materials. The Special Collections Department changed its name to the East Texas Research Center in 1994 but continued as the official repository of university records. Information of general interest about SFA history, buildings, folklore and traditions is available in the University Archives and the SFA vertical files.

Scope and Contents The Vice President of Academic Affairs is broken down into nine series. They cover memos and correspondence, department publications, minutes from numberous department meetings, administration, newsletters, faculty information, budgets, grants and research and library files.

Scope and Contents This collection has materials that deal with administration of the program with files dealing with policies, program statements, and annual reports.  There are also some files outlining the guidelines of tutors and assistants.  The collection also contains issues of The Beacon, the AARC’s publication.
