Scope and Contents
This collection consists of government documents, Presidential messages, broadsides, monographs, and other early imprints concerning American Indian treaties, land claims, removal, wars, and appropriations. The bulk of the materials relate to Cherokee, but the Choctaw, Seminole, Creek, Wyandot, Chippewa, and other tribes are included. The documents concern lands in the Southeast, Northwest, Midwest, and Southwest United States. The collection was accumulated by James L. Britton, a businessman of Houston, Texas.
