Tax and business receipts, 1840-1898
Scope and Contents
The Peña-Chireno Family Papers contain original documents, 50 of which are written in Spanish, for the Peña family, the Chireno family, and other early Spanish and Mexican families (1). The collection includes personal correspondence from Sister Isabel Chireno at the Convent of Sacred Heart in Clarksville, TX to her parents Luis Chireno and Gregoria Chireno. Mother Superior, Mary Pepin also recounted Sister Isabel’s final days in two letters to her family. Other materials in the collection include business correspondence, legal and tax documents, receipts, and wills (1840-1896). Researchers working on the Acosta, Arriola, Cárdenas, Córdova, Cortiñas, Garza, Sánchez, Santos, Solís, Toscano, and Y’Barbo families may find this collection useful.
