Probate Records

 Series — Series: 4

Scope and Contents

At some point prior to the transfer of the probate case files to the ETRC (Summer 2011), San Augustine County got the collection scanned. A by-product of that scanning project were cover sheets for each probate file folder that showed the name and case number of that folder. Cover sheets without folders included the word "Missing." It was the decision of the ETRC to make file folders for these probate cases with the hopes that these records will one day be found and returned to the collection.

The aforementioned scanned collection of records is not available research at the ETRC. Legal issues prevent San Augustine County from making it accessible to the public.

What are Probate Records?

“The jurisdiction for Probate courts includes probate matters and matters involving the guardianship of incapacitated persons and minors.  Probate and guardianship cases deal with protecting the wishes, rights, and obligations of persons regarding their property when these persons are unable to do so as a result of death or incapacitating illness, either physical or mental.”
