Bennett Blake Papers

Scope and Contents

The collection consists of letters, financial papers, legal documents, and land deeds, mostly of Bennett Blake, his immediate family, and related families. A significant portion of the papers relate to William Bonaparte McKnight, who married Mary Louisa Addie Blake. McKnight's papers include oil leases and negotiations for timber rights. Several original land grants are included in the collection, two signed by Republic of Texas President Anson Jones.

The Henry Brewer Family Papers consist of business and family correspondence; land grant and title papers; deeds, field notes, and plats; tax receipts; accounts, promissory notes and receipts; resolutions; Baptist Church session minutes and other publications; the Brewer Family Bible [too fragile to handle]; and genealogical materials.

Herrera Family Papers

The Herrera Family Papers include a original land grant signed by Gov. Hubbard. There are also 15 original deeds of sale, mostly concerning portions of the original grant, dated 1886 to 1965. The collection also includes family photographs, account books and a copy of the will of Marvin Falcon and Beulah Herrera Falcon.

Rusche Family Papers

Scope and Contents The collection includes land deeds as well as an original land grant to Nacogdoches University, signed by Governor Elisha M. Pease. Other papers in the collection are the passport of Heinrich Rusche from Oldenburg, naturalization papers of Francis Rusche, correspondence, and financial papers. Other Nacogdoches citizens mentioned in the papers are Bernard Witkorn, Frederick Voigt, Jacob Harlacher, Rinaldo Hotchkiss, and James H. Starr.
