These papers are a collection from several sources. Part of them were given to the ETRC by the Old Stone Fort, others were found among the Nacogdoches County Court House Records, and the rest were already a part of the East Texas Research Center's vertical file collection. They have been combined so that they will be in a more useable and convenient form.

Included in these papers are deeds, survey plats, indentures, field notes, land grants, receipts, promissory notes, a limited amount of personal and business correspondence, and estate papers of Madison G. Whitaker. Also included are some genealogical materials on the Fitts and Whitaker families.

Typescript of a journal describing the early days of the Texas Revolution and a trip from Nacogdoches to Clifton Forge, Virginia, by this wife of a prominent Nacogdoches businessman. Also includes biographical and genealogical information on the Thorn family and their descendants.
