This collection consists of the papers of Daniel W. Lay, author and wildlife biologist in East Texas. Works provide an alternate viewpoint from the heavily industry-oriented area. It includes correspondence, newspaper clippings, publications, reports, research notes, negatives, and photographs.

Scope and Contents The collection spans Roark's writing career from 1943 until his death in 1985 and contains galley proofs and original handwritten and typed manuscripts of many of his books, newspaper articles, and other writings, including unpublished material. Also included are Roark's research notes and materials, and promotional material for the movies based on his novels Wake of the Red Witch, and Fair Wind to Java....

Abstract

Karle Wilson Baker (1878–1960) was a Texas author, poet, educator, and literary figure whose works included poetry, fiction, children's literature, and essays inspired by Texas history and the natural world. A prominent member of the Texas literary community, she taught at Stephen F. Austin State Teachers College and received national recognition for works such as Blue Smoke, Dreamers on Horseback, and Star of the Wilderness.
