Bexar Co. land grant (vol.6, no.311) from Texas Governor Francis R. Lubbock to the Southern Pacific Railroad Co. for 640-acres, 9/9/1862
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of various documents related to the affairs of the Blount family of San Augustine County, Texas, from 1836-1928. Most of the documents are land grants or deeds in San Augustine County, usually with a member of the Blount family as either grantor or grantee. There are also deeds or grants for land in Shelby, Sabine, Bexar, Henderson, Nacogdoches, and Tarrant counties. There are also legal documents from dealings in other states, including Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana. There are also survey maps and legal case documents related to the land in the deeds/grants. These legal documents span from 1836 to 1928, with the majority being in the nineteenth century. Also included are a few photographs and newspaper clippings from the early 20th century. The collection will be useful for researchers interested in families with a long line in East Texas, and San Augustine especially, as well as land dealings in the same, and early connections between Texas and other parts of the American South.
