Biographical or Historical Information
The store for which these ledgers were kept is unknown, but is believed to have been located in Rusk, Texas. The collection is made up of two cash books and two journals. The cash books appear to be statements of costs from the store. The first of the two cash books is dated from 1911 to 1921, and the second from 1931 to 1941; therefore, ten years are unaccounted for. The journals are the daily accounts of what was purchased by store patrons. Some of the types of items purchased are overalls, shoes, hats, eggs, onions, sugar, brooms and such.
