Biographical or Historical Information
Stephen William Blount (born Feb. 13, 1808, Burke County, Georgia, died Feb. 7, 1890) represented San Augustine Municipality at the Texas Constitutional Convention, was a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence, and was the first County Clerk in San Augustine. He married Mrs. Mary (Maria) M. Landon Lacy on Feb. 4, 1839, they were the parents of six children: Thomas William, Elizabeth Jane, James Jones, Mary Landon, Eliza Frances, Edward Augustus, Emma Eugenie, and Stephen William. Edward Augustus Blount (born Aug. 19, 1849, San Augustine, Texas, died Oct. 10, 1914) was attracted to Nacogdoches by the organization of the Commercial National Bank. He purchased controlling interest in 1902 and the bank began a successful period of growth and service. E. A. Blount married Itasca Pearl Sims (born April 9, 1852, died Aug. 21, 1982) on Dec. 14, 1870. They are buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Nacogdoches. Edward and Itasca were the parents of the following children: Edward Augustus, Jr., Laura A., Eugene Harmon and Guy Arthur. Eugene Harmon Blount (born Aug. 26, 1879, died Nov. 1927) married Rosine Shindler Feb. 29, 1903, and was elected president of the bank following his father's death. He was an influence in the organization of the East Texas Chamber of Commerce, and also served as president of Cushing State Bank, Chireno State Bank, and Commercial State Bank in San Augustine. He was a Director of National Bond and Mortgage Company, Houston: Nacogdoches Grocery Company; Nacogdoches Oil Mill; Nacogdoches S.E. Railroad Company, and Nacogdoches Compress Company. He served in the 38th and 39th Texas Legislatures, and was instrumental in getting Stephen F. Austin State College located in Nacogdoches. Eugene and Rosine Blount were the parents of five children: Rosine, Anna Mary, Itasca, Jean, and Eugene Harmon Blount, Jr. ("Blount Family." Nacogdoches County Families .
