Scope and Contents

This collection contains materials that lay out the rules, regulations and guidelines for living in university housing over a number of years.  There is also material on different events held by the Residence Hall Association.  The collection also contains a number of scrapbooks from Gibbs Hall.

Biographical or Historical Information

Residence Life is the provider of housing for around 5,000 Stephen F. Austin State University students.  It first started as the Housing Department when the University opened in 1923 with SFA relying on boarding houses at the start.  Wisely Hall was the first dormitory that opened on the SFA campus 1934 as the Men’s Dormitory.  Over the years university housing options has expanded to include a number of residence halls and university sponsored apartments. As of 2011 housing options included all freshman facilities and non freshman facilities.  The Freshman Facilities include: Hall 14, Hall 16, Steen, and the new freshman hall, Lumberjack Landing.  The Non Freshman Facilities include: Hall 10, Griffith Hall, Kerr Hall, Mays Hall, Hall 20, Lumberjack Lodge, Lumberjack Village, North Hall, South Hall, Todd Hall, University Woods, and Wisely Hall.Note written by Greg Bailey
