Biographical or Historical Information
While the Texas State Teacher’s Association began in 1880, it was not until 1934 that a chapter got organized for East Texas. The first meeting, as well as subsequent annual conventions (at least through 1973), were held at Stephen F. Austin State University each fall. The association’s purpose is to be a political and legal advocate for Texas public school employees. Their goal is to improve the treatment of teachers and staff at the workplace.
