Biographical or Historical Information
This collection of manuscript materials was a gift from Mattie Sharp Brewer of Austin. Miss Brewer originally collected the material to publish a biography of Crocket but the project was never completed. She was related to Crocket by her grandmother who was a sister of Crocket's father. Mr. Crocket was author of Two Centuries in East Texas and Episcopal rector of Nacogdoches and San Augustine. In addition to being a rector, historian and writer, Crocket was also a talented wood carver. Some of his work serves as a visible memorial to him in the chapel of Christ Episcopal Church of Nacogdoches. The Altar, the Psalter Board, and several panels in the pulpit are examples of some of Crocket's fine work.
