Hugh Byar Collection
Scope and Contents
The Hugh Byar Collection is composed of twenty-four Nacogdoches County, Texas deeds spanning the years 1847-1901. There are also two deeds from Polk County. The deeds span the entirety of the time period, not focusing on one particular era more than others. There are also a variety of official state and county seals present on the documents, as well as several stamps from the time periods as well, which may be of interest to researchers or philatelists.

Biographical / Historical
The Byars family is currently in its sixth generation in Nacogdoches, having arrived during the Republic of Texas years. Exactly which “Hugh Byars” this collection belonged to is unclear, as there have been several family members of that name.
