Biographical or Historical Information
The Department of Military Science at Stephen F. Austin State University was formed in 1968 in conjunction with the United States Department of the Army to establish Reserve Officers’ Training Corp (ROTC) on campus. The Military Science Department was formed to serve two purposes; it enables the college to increase its offerings to the student through the presentation of instruction in leadership and management, and enables the government to increase its base for obtaining officers. As of 2011 the Lumberjack Battalion is still a functioning department on the SFASU campus.Note written by Greg Bailey
