Biographical or Historical Information
The Pitts Family Collection contains documents about German prisoner of war experience during World War II. These documents include a P.O.W. information card, a P.O.W. journal, P.O.W. activity programs, and a P.O.W. newspaper from the P.O.W. camp in Altburgund, Poland. There are many documents pertaining to Raymond B. Parsons military service during WWII. Parsons was a Captain in the U.S. Army and fought in the European theater. The documents pertaining to Parsons include a Certificate of Honorable Discharge, Military Record and Report of Separation certificate, a Certificate of Completion of U.S. Infantry School and a certificate of membership to the U.S. Civil Service Retirement System.
The collection also contains letters addressed to Miss Julia Clark from Stephen F. Austin State College and R.B. Blake. These letters ask Miss. Clark to donate her grandfather’s (Charles S. Taylor) personal papers to the College. There are also Western Union Telegrams to the Schott Family, warranty deeds pertaining to the Schott, Curl, and Taylor families, and also genealogical research on the Clark family and biographical information about Charles S. Taylor.
The last part of the collection contains a historical home preservation handbook for Nacogdoches, pictorial calendars of Nacogdoches, photo postcards of historical homes, and several photos. The majority of the collection’s photos are not dated and several of these photos are of unidentified men, women and children. The photos that are identified include photos of Francis Schott, Anna Taylor, E. Cox and Hallie Thomas, Rosine Shindler, Itasca Blount, Jean Blount, Rosine Blount, Anna Angela Clark, Minnie and Benjamin F. Sharp, Margrett Parsons, and Amelia Taylor Clark.
