Biographical or Historical Information

Founded in 1866, but not incorporated until 1893, Center, Texas is the county seat of Shelby County. There are several notable historic sites in the town, including the Shelby County Courthouse (built by J. J. E. Gibson in 1885 to resemble an Irish castle), the First Christian Church, the Truitt Cemetery and the Sardis Methodist Church.
