Biographical or Historical Information
Lovell Andrew “Andy” Legg was born in Nacogdoches on October 17, 1863. He married Ludie Thomas on November 24, 1904 in Nacogdoches, Texas. They had no children. Andy’s father, L.L. Legg purchased a 569-acre tract of land 17 miles west of Nacogdoches (in present-day Douglass) from Anna Hinckley in November 1872. Andy received a parcel of this land upon reaching the age of majority. He opened a general goods store on this tract of land in 1884. He continued the running of the store, along with his wife, Ludie, until 1924. He passed away on March 6, 1929. Ludie sold the land to R.M. Kelly in 1931. She passed away in 1967. The store building remained on the land until February 1987 when landowner Jerry Martin had the structure removed.
