Biographical / Historical
Preceptor Upsilon of Beta Sigma Phi is an international, non-academic sorority founded in 1931 in Abilene, Kansas by Walter W. Ross. The organization encouraged and promoted friendship, cultural enrichment and community service. The Preceptor Upsilon Chapter expanded and grew into a global network of hundreds of chapters across many countries. Members typically meet regularly for business meetings and cultural programming, while also encouraging philanthropic initiatives such as scholarship funds and disaster relief.
During the mid-2010s, the Preceptor Upsilon Chapter based in Center, Texas, functioned as a local chapter and was active in community service and civic engagement. Like other chapters, it organized regular business meetings and programs while also maintaining philanthropic efforts. The chapter contributed to community development through partnerships with business and local institutions and also participated in charity initiatives.
The chapter was actively involved in fundraising for organizations such as the Fannie Brown Booth Memorial Library, along with community projects in Shelby County. These activities also included other fundraising events supported by donations sponsorships from local businesses which reflects how the chapter integrates their presents within the local economy and community engagement.
