Biographical / Historical

American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) Chapter 1200, Nacogdoches, Texas was chartered November 1972 and incorporated January 18, 1973. The purpose of the chapter was to provide advocacy, education and programming for retired persons in the community. The chapter met on the first Monday of every month and listened to an outside speaker present on a community or retirement topic. Leadership of the organization consisted of seven officers, six standing committees and six to eleven local committees. Dues were two dollars per year with a recommended contribution of one dollar each month. Annual membership ranged from 40 to 70 people through the 1990s and the first decade of the 2000s. Chapter 1200 dissolved May 7, 2012 by a vote of 13-3 at the monthly board meeting.
