Scope and Contents
The 1884 to 1913 journals were written by Sam Lee. The journal entries are short and mostly describe crops being planted or harvested. There are some personal notes of information such as when his sister Cordie or Bessie visit, who preached the church services and where, and when people in the community died.

Biographical / Historical
Samuel N. Lee (1844-1916) came to Texas in the late 1850s with his mother Sara Adams Lee (1820-1887) and five siblings. In 1860 the family was living with Lemuel and Elizabeth Adams in Rusk County, Texas. In 1878 Sam married Malinda Jane Crews (1854-1941) and raised their family in the Rusk and Gregg County area.
