Scope and Contents
The collection consists of one specialty made leather bound album. The title page is inscribed with “Dedicated to our Dear Commander 1st Ltn. Thomas E. Broughton in kind remembrance. Officers and guards of the 8599 Lab. Serv. Co.” Pins inside the album include a Kotwica and other Polish military pins.

Biographical / Historical
Thomas Elbert Broughton was born on February 7, 1920, in Waterville, Minnesota, to Thomas Broughton and Matilda Suttlif. He married Imogene Francis Gish on July 29, 1941, and they had one daughter, Kirstin Mabel Broughton, in 1942.
In 1941, at the age of 21, he worked as a filling station attendant and was registered for the national draft during World War II. He served in the United States Army Air Force as a Second Lieutenant and First Lieutenant. Post-war operations, Broughton worked with Polish military personnel in the 8599 Labor Service Company at the USAFE Headquarters in Frankfurt, Germany. He also served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars until his retirement in 1973.
Broughton passed away in November 1993 and is buried at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
