Biographical or Historical Information
Sometime before 1931, the Men's Faculty Club of Stephen F. Austin State University was formed. Meetings were held monthly on Thursday nights in the "social room", probably room 107 of the Main (Austin) Building. Early meetings were educational ones at which papers were read. One meeting was an annual social event. At least one non SFA faculty member, Mr. C. K. Chamberlain, Nacogdoches High School principal, was invited to join the club.
By 1950, the original club had apparently ceased to function, because a group named the Men's Faculty Club was organized. This new body seemed to have as its chief aim recreation and service. Members participated in fishing trips, picnics and barbecues, as well as other activities. By the mid 1970s, the club appears to have no longer been in existence, probably because there were so many men on the faculty that a single club became impractical.
This collection consists of minutes, memos, fliers and miscellaneous other items relating to both clubs.
