Biographical or Historical Information
The Nacogdoches Commission on Women and Families held its organizational meeting May 6, 1991, after having been created by the City Commission on April 16. The purposes of the NCWF, as stated in its bylaws, are to identify the needs of women and families within the community, to network with agencies, individuals and groups who can serve the needs of women and families, to apprise the City Commission and the community of the accomplishments and needs of women and families, to secure federal, state and other funding for projects, and to enhance communication and interaction between city government and all citizens. The NCWF consists of eleven citizens of Nacogdoches or its extraterritorial jurisdiction, five of whom are appointed by the City Commission and six of whom are also appointed by the City Commission from a pool of names suggested by different women's organizations of Nacogdoches
