The collection contains research materials used for six of Ericson's books; Nacogdoches Fires and Firemen (1976), The People of Nacogdoches County in the Civil War (1980), Panola County, Texas in the Civil War (2001), Sabine County, Texas in the Civil War (2001), and San Augustine County, Texas in the Civil War (2002).

This collection has a mix of Southern correspondence, newspaper articles, rosters, orders, war tax receipts, and other papers and documents relating to the Civil War. There are originals, typed transcriptions, and photocopies in the collection.

The Henry Brewer Family Papers consist of business and family correspondence; land grant and title papers; deeds, field notes, and plats; tax receipts; accounts, promissory notes and receipts; resolutions; Baptist Church session minutes and other publications; the Brewer Family Bible [too fragile to handle]; and genealogical materials.

Scope and Contents Typescripts of correspondence between Garrison and family members during his Confederate military service. Includes material on politics, camp conditions, social life, combat, inflation, and family matters. His letters encompass the years of 1860 to 1863 and relate to his family the details of army life, battles he fought during the Civil War, and the hardships suffered by the Confederate troops. The papers in this collection consist of letters and other writings of members of the Meroney family. Of special interest are the Civil War letters. All the documents in the collection are original, accompanied by a typed transcription.

Scope and Contents

The letters and business papers included in the Orton Family Papers concern mostly the Sidney Maury Orton family. In addition, many letters concern the Mt. Enterprise Male and Female Academy, where Sidney and Louisa's children attended school. Many of the letters in the collection have typed transcripts.
