This collection contains the diary of William Droddy documenting his service with a Texas volunteer company during the Mexican-American War from May to September 1846. The diary describes travel from East Texas to northern Mexico, camp life, religious services, interactions with Mexican communities, illness and hardships among the troops, and references to notable military figures including Zachary Taylor and Albert Sidney Johnston.

Mother of poet and novelist, Karle Wilson Baker. Journal gives an account of family activities in Little Rock, Arkansas, including church life, social gatherings, concerts and special events, and health. Traces Baker's literary beginnings and charts her progress in music, school, and sports. The family later moved to Nacogdoches where Kate died.
