Biographical or Historical Information
Benjamin Arthur Atkinson was born in Butts County, Georgia on August 24, 1838, the youngest son of Washington G. Atkinson and Mary Newport Goss. He was educated in Atlanta and married Eliza Y. Hankla on January 17, 1860. They had two daughters, Mary A. and Bennie Arthur, who was born after Benjamin's death in Arkansas during the Civil War. Eliza was married again a few years later to Robert T. Noble and they had a number of children together. She was postmistress in Chireno from 1880 to 1888, and died in Logansport, Louisiana on August 7, 1919.
