Stockwell Collection
Scope and Contents
There are two ration booklets, a partial sheet of ration stamps and two newsletters in this World War 2 collection. Researchers may find the newsletters of particular interest. One pertains to a training class of the Women's Army Corps in Nacogdoches, Texas. The second newsletter is that of an Army Air Corps base unit stationed at Myitkyina in Burma. It is unlikely that these newsletters are widely circulated.

Biographical / Historical
Harrison Lee Stockwell Sr. was born on January 28, 1877, in Columbus, Ohio, to Squire O. Stockwell and Lydia “Elizabeth” Lee. In 1898, he enlisted in the 3rd New York Infantry, Company M, during the Spanish-American War. He married Eliza Edith Hoon Stockwell, born on September 30, 1878, who passed away on March 14, 1913. From 1914 to 1922, Harrison Sr. became an officer in the Hospital and Medical Corps of the United States Army. He remarried in 1920 to Elizabeth Maynard Stockwell, born on May 11, 1895, in Appleton, Wisconsin. Together, they had one son, Harrison Lee Stockwell Jr., on September 6, 1921, in San Antonio. Around 1940, the Stockwell family moved to Nacogdoches, Texas.
Harrison Jr. attended Stephen F. Austin State Teachers College for two years before he enlisted in the Army on September 28, 1942. He married Barbara Oliver Stockwell in 1948.
Harrison Sr. passed away on July 10, 1952, and is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Nacogdoches, Texas, while Harrison Jr. was buried in Sunset Memorial Park in 1998.
In addition to the Stockwell family, the collection includes a newsletter from Company A, Class 9, of the Women’s Army Corps (WAC) in Nacogdoches, Texas. Formed in 1942, the WAC was comprised of student volunteers from Stephen F. Austin State University. The WAC was incorporated into the U.S. Army in 1943, where members attended six-week training courses. The WAC also performed shows and musicals abroad.
The second newsletter for the Army Air Corps in Myitkyina, Burma, was published by the 1348th Army Air Forces Base Unit in 1943. The unit was attached to the Air Transport Command during World War II.

Abstract
This collection consists of three World War II ration booklets from Harrison Lee Stockwell Sr. and Harrison Lee Stockwell Jr. In addition, there are two newsletters from the Women’s army Corps in Nacogdoches, Texas and the Army Air Corps at Myitkyina in Burma detailing musical performances and international headlines.
