Biographical or Historical Information
The Price – Hall family was a family of prominent businessmen in East Texas and Louisiana. Elijah Price moved to Logansport, Louisiana in 1897 from San Augustine, Texas to become a partner in the N.J. Caraway & Co. general merchandise store. They had a funeral business as well. Elijah Price was a colonel in the Civil War and owned a steamboat which was used on the Sabine River until the introduction of the railroad to Logansport. Elijah’s sons were also in the Caraway & Co. business becoming presidents of the company. Smith Price was a prominent banker in East Texas during the oil boom and became President of the Longview National Bank.
