Parks-Whitehead Collection
Scope and Contents
The Parks-Whitehead Collection is a very small collection and consists of four folders. Folder 1 has six postcards featuring scenes from various cities across the United States, including San Antonio, Texas, Kansas City, Missouri, Topeka, Kansas, and Chicago, Illinois. One simply reads “All Good Wishes” and another, “Easter Greetings.” Folder 2 has a total of four letters to Leonard Whitehead, two (1946 and 1947) from his brother in law Joseph Farr Parks, one (1944) from his brother in law Alfred Ebenezer Parks, and one (1941) from friend Rev. Eldon L. Reed. Folder 3 has a 1891 letter to H.S. (Henderson Sylvester Tipps) and M. (Martha Jane Muckleroy Tipps) of Nacogdoches County, Texas from "Your loving Mother" M.E. Tipps (Mary Elizabeth Parks Tipps).

Biographical / Historical
Edith Parks (1893-1978) is the daughter of George Porter Parks and Mary Elizabeth Farr and granddaughter of Rev. Alfred D. Parks and Sarah Windham. Edith was born and raised in Nacogdoches County, Texas along with her nine siblings.
Leonard Whited (1887-1969) is the son of James Harvey Whitehead and Emma Hall. Leonard was born and raised in Nacogdoches County, Texas along with his 5 siblings
Edith and Leonard married August 15, 1912 in Nacogdoches County and lived and farmed off Highway 21 in the Melrose area. They had two children Laverne and Herbert. Edith and Leonard are both buried in Fairview Cemetery, Nacogdoches County, Texas.
