Biographical / Historical
Valerious “Val” Henry Sharp (1886-1973) the son of James Sharp (1856-1930) and Elizabeth Matthews (1859-1928) was raised in San Augustine County, Texas. Val married Thelma Harris (1900-1991) and had three children. Val has had various occupations throughout his life. When he joined the military in 1917 he was the deputy Tax Assessor for San Augustine County. While in the military Val served in Battery F, 64th Artillery, Coast Artillery Corp and was released from service in April 1919. In 1920 Val worked as a laborer at a lumber mill but by 1930 he was a salesman for Gulf Oil which he continued to do into the 1940’s.
