Biographical / Historical
Jesse Dewey Mixon (1897-1969) was the son of Thomas Mixon and Matilda Lockhart and lived in Cherokee County, Texas. Jesse joined the Marine Corps in Dallas, Texas on August 15, 1917. He was stationed in Parris Island, S.C., Quantico, VA., Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and was finally discharged at Galveston, Texas in February 1919. He married Julia Bell in Dallas, Texas in 1922. They had a son Jesse Durrett Mixon (1926-1995) who joined the Army November 22, 1944 and was discharged September 1946. Jesse Durrett Mixon was an associate professor at Stephen F. Austin State University until his retirement in 1988.
