Charles Hardy (1931-1981) was the son of Paul Buford Hardy and Hattie B Wyatt. Joyce Dean Campbell (1933-1996) was the daughter of John Rubin Campbell and Beatrice Gertrude Thompson. Charles Hardy and Joyce Campbell were married on June 7, 1952. Shortly after their marriage, Charles was assigned to Albuquerque, New Mexico as Military Police for the U.S. Air Force and guarded nuclear weapons in the height of the Cold War. After his discharge from the Air Force, Charles and Joyce settled in Nacogdoches, where Charles ran Hardy’s Grocery, Bait and Tackle, previously located on the corner of Stallings and Woden road, while Joyce was a long-term employee of the cable company in Nacogdoches. The couple produced two children, Cynthia Hardy Pitts and Rhonda Hardy Johnson, who are prominently featured in images contained in the collection.
