Scope and Contents
Two scrapbooks have newspaper clippings about the 1853 and 1856 elections. One document lists "Negros lost by Amansipations [emancipation], 1865" signed September 1865 by A.H. Rowell. There is one photo of two African American females.

Biographical / Historical
Albert H. Rowell was born 1821 in Virginia, in 1845 he married Tabitha Clementine Driskell born 1832 in Alabama. About 1866 the family moved to Jefferson, Texas. Albert purchased a house in 1884 that was built by Quincy Bateman. Today the house is known as the A.H. Rowell-Meyers House in Jefferson, Texas. Albert and Tabitha had eight children, all but one lived in Texas. Albert died in 1899 and Tabitha died in 1922 due to fatal burns she received at home. They are both buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Jefferson, Texas.
