The collection consists of McDonald's draft manuscript, including chapter notes, to HURRAH FOR TEXAS! THE DIARY OF ADOLPHUS STERNE 1838-1851, published by Texian Press in 1969. The manuscript does not include the index or bibliography printed in the published version.

Cartwright Journals

Scope and Contents

The collection is filled with accounting ledger, personal information and a few diary entries. About half the ledgers are accounts both settled and unsettled. There are also ledgers that contain orders that had yet to be filled. James Cartwright chronicled business matters in his ledgers.

Edwin Welsh Bush Collection

Scope and Contents The diary kept by Edwin Welsh Bush documents his journey from Gallatin, Sumner County, Tennessee to Texas in 1852. Bush entered the state by way of Pendleton’s Ferry and then made his way through Milam, San Augustine, Melrose, and Nacogdoches. The diary also contains notes written about travels through Texas and return trips to Tennessee between 1853 and 1854. Emily Hughes Davis Sexton Diary

R. C. McCrary WWII Collection

Rusk County Daybook and Scrapbook

The scrapbook (pages 1-70) consists of stories and other clippings from Rusk County, Texas newspapers as late as 1892. The daybook (pages 71-211) is from Henderson, Texas and records the accounts of various customers at a mercantile store, 1850-1851. This book is a photostat. Sam N. Lee Journals

The 1884 to 1913 journals were written by Sam Lee. The journal entries are short and mostly describe crops being planted or harvested. There are some personal notes of information such as when his sister Cordie or Bessie visit, who preached the church services and where, and when people in the community died.

Shelby County, Texas, Cooperative Association (Patrons of Husbandry) Cashbook

Scope and Contents Part of the book contains a brief journal which appears to be a record of trips taken from 1895 to 1900 (author unknown). In the same handwriting are copied some inspirational thoughts. At the end of the book are several pages of a diary which begins with the announcement of the birth of Edward Boone Brackett, Jr. in 1905 and ends about 1912. Scope and Contents Droddy’s diary begins on May 17th, 1846 at Little Cow Creek in Jasper (now Newton) County. From there, he goes to muster in Jasper, but having missed the company, fellows them to Bevilport. From there, they take a boat down the Neches River to Beaumont, and from there, they travel to Galveston, Port Isabel, then up the Rio Grande as far north as Camargo.
