Brown and Dixon Company Records
This collection consists of cash books and ledgers of the Brown & Dixon company.
Clark & Hyde Mercantile Collection
This collection contains three items. Two day log books for the store, which detail transactions from October 1872 to January 1874. The third item is a note book with notes on a few legal cases dating from 1871.
Harris Hardware Records
The bulk of this collection consists of business ledger books and invoices. There is a single letter written to John Reagan Harris in the collection. This collection is a great resource for researchers looking information on 1950s businesses in Shelby County businesses in the 1950s, many of whom purchased products from the Harris hardware store branches. Researchers might also be interested to look at the geographic diversity of products being sold by a hardware store in 1950s East Texas.
Johnson General Merchandise Store Records
This collection consists of 79 ledger books documenting store business. There are 34 account books (1912-1949), 22 day books (1915-1942), 9 cash books (1916-1951), 6 commercial accounts books (1931-1947), 3 order books (1929-1940), 3 check receipts books (1933-1944), a cotton purchasing account book (1928-1931), and a daily record of cash receipts book (1929, 1940).
Lemuel Brown Collection
Doctor's account book listing patients' names or relation to head of household and sometimes type of treatment or prescription with costs. Patients were from Nacogdoches and San Augustine counties.
Nacogdoches Chronicle Records
The two volumes show subscribers and amounts paid, other newspapers exchanged with the Chronicle, advertising accounts and accounts paid. Included are the names of many city and county residents.
Payne and Payne Hardware Records
A collection of ledgers showing day-to-day activity in this former Shelby County hardware and furniture store founded by W. W. Payne and his son R. J. Payne. This collection includes customer accounts, inventories and invoices from Payne and Payne's suppliers. These records give a detailed picture of the type of merchandise sold by Payne and Payne from 1915 through 1950 and 1987-1991.
