Willie Lee Glass Collection
Scope and Contents
This collection consists primarily of newspaper clippings and photographs (both originals and photocopies). Also present are nomination letters and letters of recommendation, copies of award certificates, biographical sketches, and several of Mrs. Glass’ publications. One item of note is an original Texas State Senate resolution granted in memorial of Willie Lee Glass in 1999.

Biographical or Historical Information
Willie Lee Glass was born Willie Lee Campbell on August 24, 1910 in Nacogdoches, Texas to Mary and E. J. Campbell. After growing up in Nacogdoches, she left to attend Prairie View College. She then went to Iowa State College and in 1933 earned her master’s degree in home economics education, one of the youngest to do so at Iowa State College. She married Dr. D. R. Glass, president of Texas College in Tyler, Texas, on August 10, 1936. She spent years teaching home economics from the high school level to the college level. From 1950-1963, she was the East Texas Area Supervisor for Home and Family Life Education for the Texas Education Agency. In 1964, she became a Consultant for Home Economics Education for the TEA until her retirement in 1974. In 1985, she was inducted into the Texas Women’s Hall of Fame by Governor Mark White. Upon her death in 1999, the Texas State Senate granted a resolution in memory of Mrs. Glass.
